A holiday in the Kingdom of Queen Elizabeth the Second has a ring to it that is as pleasant as the idea of a cup of tea, cake and scones on a chilly overcast day. England is known the world over for the unique aura its cities and towns exude. The architecture in Exeter speaks loudly of the city's rich history that spans far back into the era of Roman rule right through the Renaissance and Industrial Revolutions to the modern day. You will love Exeter's cityscapes, its bridges, rivers, monuments, cathedrals, municipal buildings and apartments that exude English tradition.

A well-known geographic feature in the city is the River Exe, a long and navigable river that the author George Oliver speculates as being the reason for early settlement around the region during Exeter's rural beginnings. The abundant forested terrain in Exeter could also be a reason for settlement. The bedrock upon which Exeter sits comprises mainly sandstone and other mixtures of rock. A ridge and volcanic plug make up an important part of the city's landscape. An extrusion of magma created the volcanic plug upon which the 'Rougemont Castle' was built.

As is always the case, temperatures in Exeter are higher during summer than in winter. Though temperatures do increase after the winter something, they never reach unbearable heights. July is the hottest month and experiences temperatures of approximately 21 degrees Celsius. Wintertime is when things get nippy and the thought of having a jumper on seems pleasant. Temperatures veer within the single digits during the cold season giving you plenty of reason to stay indoors and have some tea. Precipitation also happens to be more common during the winter season while summers remain dry so if you want to explore the city during your stay, timing your vacation around the middle of the year is the best plan.

There's a good chance you won't be spending all your time within the confines of your cosy living space at the Exeter hotel at which you choose to book accommodation. You may spend your time out and about exploring the city for yourself but if you want to receive a thorough viewing of Exeter, a guided tour is highly recommended. Join a troupe of tourists on one of several 'Exeter Red Coat Tours' to get a chance to see the city while having fast facts about each location told to you. You'll have the chance to see the city in different perspectives in tours such as 'Medieval Exeter', 'Ghosts and Legends', 'Murder and Mayhem', 'Cathedral to Quay' and several others.

Funded by the Exeter City Council and founded in 1999, 'Animated Exeter' takes place each February and draws a crowd of roughly 15,000 a year. This celebration of all forms of animation serves the purpose of fostering talent and interest for the creative art in the minds of young ones while giving praise to the art form itself.

There will be times when you want to sit down for some lunch or maybe have dinner out on the town in the evening. Whatever you choose to do in this regard, Exeter's many restaurants will cater to you in the form of French, Italian, Seafood and some English cuisine as well of course. Restaurants are plenty so you won't find yourself having to search high and low for places to eat. At the end of the evening, you may choose to return to your room or maybe
